As always, have other things/events I need to catch up on. However, I wanted to record a few memorable conversations that have been had over the past week.
First on occured last week when we were in the car and had our two neighbor kids with us. They had been talking about growing up and how long it takes to grow up. A few things established in the conversation:
- Carson will be the first to grow up (he is after all 6) but he doesn't even need to worry because he's not a teenager yet, that doesn't happen until you're like 88.
- Bowzer won't die until they're grown up then they'll be really sad but it's ok cause they can get a new dog, a small one they can carry around.
Highlight of the conversation:
Carson: So if I'm gonna be really old first does that mean I have to marry a really old girl?
Brayden: No, you get to marry whatever beautiful girl you want.
Tavita: WHAT? (imagine lots of inserts of laugh, what the hecks, and smart aleck remarks inserted throughout the conversation, that was about the extent of his contribution)
Emma: He wants to marry ----(I forgot her name)
C: YEAH I DO!!!
B: Who's that
C: Oh, she's so pretty and she's 7 but she doesn't want to marry me.
B: You should marry Emma Hall (not Emma his sister of course who was in the car)
C: She doesn't want to marry me either. (Pauses then gets really excited) But, But I'm gonna trick her you guys. I'm gonna get her. When we're old I'm gonna ask her to marry me and she'll say no. I'll say, good cause I don't want to marry you either. Then I'm gonna hide. I'm gonna hide somewhere dark and when she walks by I'm gonna jump out behind her, scare her and marry her. Then she'll be stuck!
(Junior and I are busting up laughing in the front. The kids find this to be a very feasible and wise plan)
C: Brayden, who are you gonna marry? I'm marrying Emma Hall so you need to pick someone.
B: UMMMM UMMMM UMMMM (in deep thought for a long time)
Meanwhile Emma has her hands in begging position, eyes closed saying: pick me, pick me, please pick me, please, please, please pick me
B(looks at Emma): AHHH, I don't know who yet, but she's gonna be beautiful.
Conversation continues about growing old.
A couple days ago I had just finished vaccuming the downstairs. Tavita comes down "WOW Mommy, it looks so clean!"
M: Doesn't it feel good to have a clean room? (being that it's the playroom, it usually gets bombed 10 minutes after I've cleaned it)
T: YEAH IT DOES!
M: Should I go do the upstairs now or should I go cook dinner?
T: NO MOMMY! Don't cook dinner. Your cooking makes me fat, don't do it.
Saunters of to go attend to other matters.
I just stood there dumbfounded, then cracked up becaues it was hillarious, then got a little worried about the fact my 3 year old is worried about getting fat.
Yesterday I was talking to Brayden asking him his thoughts on moving (nothing is remotely in the works, just talking hypothetically).
M: If Grandma and Grandpa were to move somewhere, would you want to go to?
B&T: YEAH, YEAH, YEAH
M: We could move there!
B: NO WAY!
M: Why not?
B: We live in Utah, our house is in Utah
M: We could get a new house
B: No, I would miss my friends too much
M: You could make new friends
B: Nah, I'll stick to my old friends, I don't need new ones.
M: What if we got a new, bigger house.
B: I remember when the Short's house was really little and blue. Now it's really big and brown so if we need to make our house bigger then PSSH (waves hands in the air) no problem. We'll just make our house bigger.
Today at the grocery store. We take about 10 steps in the store and Tavita freaks out, runs in front of the cart plants his feet and uses both arms to stop the cart, yelling, "STOP, STOP, STOP, RIGHT NOW!"
M: What's wrong?
T: There's flowers (points to a display of flowers). They're flowers for you get some!
M: Not this time I don't need flowers
T: (still very insistent): Yes you do, you NEED them (ever since he was very young he's thought all flowers are rightfully mine)
M: I'm not buying myself flowers, tell Daddy to buy me flowers.
T: NO, I'M A BOY I CAN BUY THEM FOR YOU. Get them right now.
I'm a bad parent and still told him no, we had come in the store for other things and didn't budget for flowers (they were huge fancy boquets). In retrospect I feel kind of bad and wished I had helped him find something smaller and more reasonable. Oh well, something daddy can do. (HINT HINT haha)

Fall Fun
Why is this time of year SOOO insanely busy. I feel like we hit the ground running every morning and don't stop until we go to bed. For instance yesterday I got up at 6:15, was at the grocery store at 6:45 and litteraly did not stop until 10:30. All 3 meals were eaten standing up while doing other things. The most frustrating part is at the end of the day, the list seems to have grown rather then shortened.
Despite my grumblings I LOVE this time of year and all the activities going on, we have a Halloween activity of some sort or another everyday this week except today (and that's only because it's snowing/raining and it was an outdoor activity, yes it's october and we have a nice sprinkling of snow on our lawn). I have to admit I've come to love the fall and the cooler weather with the beautiful leaves, cool air, the baking, etc (the only thing that keeps me from fully enjoying it is knowing what's around the corner).
Anyway, with a lot of activities comes a lot of pics. We haven't gotten pics of every event as we are still without a camera. Here's the happenings over the last month or so. They've all been taken with a camera phone or or video cam but at least we have the memories right!
First a few randoms from our phones!
Here is the KING of Halloween. Tavita talks about Halloween everyday, all year long (SERIOUSLY!). We have a daily dance party to Halloween music and have to make some sort of Halloween craft/treat at least a couple times a week. (Need any ideas we've come up with some easy fun ones, sadly I haven't taken many pictures)

The three stooges (The blonde one is their brother from another mother)

Kalei showcasing the pumpkins from our garden. Note the Halloween books she's sitting on. The boys set up a whole display around the pumpkins.

The boys and their beloved pet Hoppy (look closely at Brayden's finger) They took very good care of him for a few days, attended to his every need, talked to him, brought him along wherever they were playing. I started to get worried their beloved pet would die on them and cause some serious heartache so I convinced them Hoppy's family was worried about him and needed him to come back. There were a few tears but they said they were glad they made Hoppy and his family happy again.

Random picture of the kids playing at Wal-Mart but it's a great shot of Brayden's mop before we finally convinced him to cut it.

As I mentioned in the previous post, Junior recently completed his first 5K about 5 weeks ago.
Here are his cheerleaders all geared up and ready to go.

Getting ready to race, obviously very deep in thought.

The video camera was to slow to get any pictures of him actually running, so here Junior is reinacting his run to the finish.

The sweaty trackstar

Junior and most of the 100 day heart challenge crew
Tavita and one of our Halloween projects: candy corn cookies

The finished product. Tavita loved this one because he got to use a rolling pin, pizza cutter, knife and piping bags.

Two weeks ago we did a movie night at our house. We hung a big sheet on the wall, Junior got a projector from work, and the neighborhood came over. The kids loved it, I think they loved the postmovie dance party the most!

Tavita rolling in the popcorn. There was more popcorn then carpet when all is said and done, thank goodness for vaccuums.

Kids were literally scaling the walls, leaping in the air, rolling on top of each other. It was hillarious to watch, the amazing thing is despite the chaos, it was all laughter and no tears.

On Saturday we went to the pumpkin patch we go to every year. The kids love it because they get to cut their own pumpkins then have a few other activities. We love it cause it's FREE (aside from the pumpkins)
Kalei would've been content hanging out with this mule all day. She was enthralled.

Kings of the haystack!

"She thinks my tractor's sexy!"

Mommy n LeiLei

Apparently we have 4 children, who knew!

In search of the perfect pumpkin.

"Not quite sure what these things are, maybe if I sit on it, something will hatch out of it!"

Brayden cutting his pumpkin

Tavita cutting his pumpkin

Kalei's turn!

Junior with the pickins'

"I can do it, I know I can!"

Who needs a sand pit, when you can have a corn pit?

Brayden doing what little boys do best, exploring!

We had new neighbors move in behind us. It used to be a bunch of single guys now it's a family with 4 kids (ages 6,4,3,2). We LOVE having them there. We get along with Luke and Erin really well and our kids play great together. Only problem is because of the way things are laid out you have to walk down the street and around the corner to get to eachothers houses. On Saturday Junior and Luke took care of that problem.
I present to you the, "Hobit Hole"
Junior and Luke hard at work. They had no plan, just kind of let things unfold as they went along.

Practicing their "deer in headlight" look!

The kids with the finished product (It even has self-closing hinges!). They LOVE it! They find every reason imaginable so they can use it.

After the project we had a little fall fest. Our backyard gets a TON of leaves. Here's an idea. I started leaf blowing, decided it was a bit self-defeating so gave up. Two hours later it looked like this. It had been completely clear from the tree over.

Junior brought these boxes home from work. They were used as coffins, leaf containers, hide-n-seek tools etc.

Brayden in a leaf frenzy

Rolling down the hill

They waged war against the blower

Brayden and Emma performing a zombie dance for us

Kalei, wasn't sure what to make of it all, but she slowly joined the fun

Luke being pulled into a leaf war

After all of Junior's hard work, Tavita quickly dismantled it all (and had quite the mishevious grin while doing so!) Oh well, that's what we do, we rake piles for the kids recreation then after a few weeks we finally bag them. After all, what's the point of fall leaves if you can't play in them!

100-day heart challenge
STILL no camera. I've finally resorted to using the camera phone and our video camera "still-mode" niether of which take the best of pictures but at least it's perserving memories. Anyway, that's my excuse for the lack of blogging.
However, this particular blog has no need for a camera so I shouldn't be using that as an excuse.
In June, Junior was chosen to do his companies 100-day Heart Challenge. He and 14 others were given personal trainers (though Junior's quit after a couple weeks so he was largely on his own) was given access to the hospital's gym, attended weekly nutrion classes and had to document everything they ate.
It was a fun challenge coming up with a bunch of new meals that were low-fat, whole grain, low-sodium (his biggest goal was to lower his blood pressure), low-cholestrol, yet not low-taste. We actually came up with some really good ones and have continued to try to eat that way the majority of the time (though it's nice to be able to eat a good roast dinner from time time).
Another big challenge was portion control. Junior usually at the typical polynesian-sized meals (large plate, lots of rice, lots of meats, lots of servings). We now eat of the dessert sized plates (our dessert plates are pretty decent sized) and try to have the veggies take up half the plate. He'll occasionally take a second plate but even then it's less then a single serving on a big plate).
He already biked to work most days but he started going to the gym and running and lifting as well. In fact for the grand finale of the challenge the contestants took part in a Run for Cancer 5K. Junior came in 1st in his group (the guy that came in actual 1st came in in under 15 min pushing a stroller. Still trying to decide if he's human or not).
At the end of it all (end of September) they did a nice fancy dinner and handed out awards for all the different categories (lbs lost, inches lost around waist, blood pressure, triglycerides etc). Junior won for dropping his cholsterol the most (big thing because a couple years ago his cholesterol was getting dangerously high which he regulated through slight change in diet) now his cholesterol is GREAT!
He also won the OVERALL!!! I was so proud of him. He's now down to 10% body fat, lost 2 1/2 inches around the waist, lost around 18 lbs, his triglycerides are down 78 points his blood pressure went down etc. He's my lean mean fighting machine! The night of the dinner some of the girls were poking at his muscles in amazement then apologized to me. I told them to poke away, I can't resist them either. Ha ha
Junior with the 2nd and 3rd place winners! (Who needs a camera when you can steal it from the company website!)

He now has access to the gym for the next year, won some gift certificates, etc. Mostly he's just grateful for the change in lifestyle it invoked in him. It was good for our whole family now the kids will have the healthy eating and importance of exercise ingrained in their little brains from the start and hopefully follow suit as they grow.

Looney Bin
Alas, I have procrastinated too long on getting pictures updated and the camera is now lost. BOOO! As luck would have it I have said, "Hurry grab the camera" about 15 times in the last two days only to have no camera to grab. We found Jr's watch in the coat closet stashed away, my phone was in buried in toys, so now we just have to figure out where the kids think the appropriate place for the camera is.
Luckily, my kids are entertaining enough, I still have plenty to blog about without pictures.
Here's last nights conversation. I was trying (unsuccessfully) to get the boys to clean up their playroom. Desperately trying not to lose it, I said in calm, yet strained voice:
"Boys, please start listening NOW. You're gonna wind up sending me to the looney bin!"
B: "What's a looney bin?"
M: "It's a place where they send the crazy people."
T: "YIKES"
B: "Where is the looney bin?"
M: "By Seven Peaks" (the state mental institution is by the water park here)
B: "Can we go there?"
M: "No"
B: "Why not, PLEASE!!!"
M: "No, lonney bins can be scary and dangerous"
B: "Why?"
T: "Cause it's full of MOMMIES!!!"
The rest of the night there was talk of the "looney bin" and all the scary mommies that live there.
Meanwhile, Kalei was entertaining us by showing us her many sides.
She was wearing 2 diaper covers/bloomers whatever they're called and a pair of shorts under her dress. All of which she started putting on then came to me for help to finish. So girly of her I thought, loves to play dress up.
Minutes later, she was running through the house with a spray bottle (thanks mom, they're the kids FAVORITE toys) making gun noises better than any little boy I know. So she's got a little tomboy in her as well.
Next she's jamming out to the church music we have playing. Very active, loves to dance.
Then she's sprawled out on the floor with a box of cereal (a habit she's adapted from her brother) lazily munching away, watching the world go by, refusing to move for anyone.
Funny little girl that's always on the go, never know what to expect from her!

Magic Finger
Yep, still procrastinating posting pics from our latest haps. It's all part of my plan to keep my huge group of fans in suspense, checking my blog 2-4 times a day in hopes of seeing new shots of our beautiful faces. Well, not today!
Instead, I give you something to read as entertainment until I finally have the time to slave over the ridiculousness that is uploading pics and writing corresponding comments on blogger.
Anyway, onto the story.
My boys, like most boys, think their daddy is the strongest man in the world. They are obsessive over this fact and dream of one day obtaining a fraction of his strength. To be honest, I tend to join them in this thought as I have yet to see Junior not be able to conquer a task. Every time I think, "No way is he gonna be able to do this one", he manages to do it.
I on the other hand stand no chance of convincing anyone, even 3 and 5 year olds, that I have any degree of strength. Never been a forte of mine, never will be.
Alas, I had to think of something that trumps strength to gain my kids admiration. The characteristic I thought up....MAGIC
Whenever my kids ask, "How do you do that?"
I respond, very nonchalantly mind you, "Magic." This invokes ohhs and ahhs from the kiddos, especially Tavita.
The other day after such an incident I heard Tavita telling Brayden, "Daddy's strong, but Mommy's MAGIC!!!"
Sweet, I have an admirer!
Apparently Tavita has put his aspirations to be the World's Strongest Man on hold in order to pursue skills in magic. He has decided this right pointer finger is MAGIC! He holds this finger in great esteem and is careful how he uses it.
The other day I was taking Tavita to a baseball game and as we were getting in the car he pointed his finger as I unlocked the car. He exclaims, "Mommy, it worked, my magic finger worked. The rest of the car ride was spend discussing how Brayden and Daddy on strong, but the two of us, we're MAGIC!
I have the typical display of my adorable kiddos faces framed going down the stairs. Yesterday Tavita was walking down the stairs and somehow, his picture (without the frame being the slightest bit disturbed) slipped out and fell on the ground.
I asked him what happened and he responded, "I don't know, it wasn't my magic finger (as he holds it out in total confusion) I had it pointing down here, but that fell from up here!"
Whenever I ask him do to something he responds, "Hold a second, I use my magic finger."
I find it hilarious. I find it adorable. I hope he always has this complete belief and confidence in his magic finger because it provides me with daily entertainment!

Grateful
As always I'm WAAAY behind on posts, but you all wouldn't know what to make of things if I was actually on top of things.
Junior wound up getting called into work tonight (this after I was just bragging at the cub committee meeting how my husband keeps cushy "bankers hours") so it's quiet and I have a minute to myself.
Started thinking how grateful I am for my life. It's definitely not a glamorous one (heck I call it a good day if I actually get myself dressed) but I love it!
I'm grateful for a husband that lets me demand him around in a million directions at once without doing anything more than rolling his eyes and giggling.
A husband that comes home from work ready to jump straight into playing with kids and helping me catch up on anything I'm behind on (cause I always am)
A husband that always finds a way to compliment me no matter the circumstance.
I'm grateful for an oldest son that loves to take on the roll of oldest and help take care of his siblings.
LOVE that his two newst phrases are "Whatever you say, whatever I do" and "You get what you get and you don't throw a fit". It's helped out immensely around here.
Grateful that he still loves to sit in my lap and get kisses.
I'm grateful for a middle son that keeps me on my toes all day long. Who needs exercise when you are running full speed around and around the yard trying to catch a screaming 3 year old (he may be a half pint but man he's fast)
LOVE his giggle and his "naked boy" dance
Grateful that after a very trying day of trying to work with him he ends it by letting me cuddle him then as I'm leaving the room he calls out in the sweetest, most heart melting voice, "Mommy, I love you!'
I'm grateful for my little princess, which she truly is. Loves to put on makeup, shoes, and jewlery. Her little diva flare cracks me up.
LOVE when she breaks down into heaving giggles over all sorts of things, even if she doesn't know why she's supposed to be lauging.
Grateful for her sweet and spicy personality. Can be totally calm and content but if you cross her WATCH OUT.
Love the moments where I here all 3 of my kiddos running and playing together, shrieking in delight.
Grateful for the fact my kids desperately want to spend time with us.
Love our nightly wrestling matches, even though last nights came to an uprupt end when Tavita started laughing so hard he peed all over me and the floor.
Grateful for the mental picture I took today of my boys and two neighbor kids with backpacks on and an assortment of bats, sticks, and guns romping the neighborhood pretending to be Ghostbusters.
Love that my boys adore their little sister and she's starting to return some of that affection.
Grateful for a crazy, stinky dog that forces us to take many trips to the park, and provides much entertainment and companionship for my kids. (another mental snapshot I took today was of Kalei sitting on the back steps with Bowzer's food bowl in her lap cracking up as he ate.
Love that our family has been able to take a break from a lot of working and hoem repair to spend this summer playing and having fun.
The list can go on and on. My life may not be perfect, but it brings me utter joy everyday (even if I have to look hard past the craziness, frustrations, and screams to find it sometimes)

Party, Party, Party and more Parties!
That is what has been consuming our life for the past month. It's been an absolute blast but utterly exhausting as well. We've been BUSY and are just going to get busier. Here are a some pics of a few of our little shindigs.
The week after we went camping we had a BYUH Samoan Club reunion, my great Uncle's 94th birthday, another BBQ and Brayden's friend's birthday all in one day. Unfortunately we only made it to the reunion and Brayden skipped out half way through to hit up the birthday party since it was just down the street.
We love getting together with all of our friends from school. It's CRAZY to see how quickly we've all grown. At first our get togethers were small and now we all have 2, 3, 4 kids running amuck. It's always so good to be able to catch up with everyone and reminisce on old times. This time around we decided to save someone the headache of hosting and all got together at the city waterpark. We swam, feasted, then swam some more. I didn't get too many pics but here are a few.
Kalei decided the berry salad would make a wonderful lotion for the two of us

Some of the crowd, we never got a big group pic

Junior in heaven with his pineapple pie (he lives for those things

The kids all lined up in a row and would jump up and down as one of them ran down the path. By the time I got my camera, they were all just running.

The next weekend was my birthday and oh what a party it was. I really wanted to go to a rodeo so we went on the Thursday before my birthday. We left Kalei with some friends and were SOOOO glad we did as we didn't get home until midnight. The rodeo was an absolute blast, I've always been a cowgirl at heart (I shoulda been a cowgirl, shoulda learned to rope and ride) and love going to things like that. The boys thought it was great and spent the next several days practicing mutton bustin on Bowzer.
The boys with their water bottles they won from the army recruits for doing pushups

Steer wrestlin

What would a rodeo be without a bucking bronco?

The rodeo clown was really a dirtbike stuntman known as "The Wild Child" This was the highlight of the boys night. (that and the bucking broncos but forgot to get a pic of that)

Ending the night with some good ole squishy faces!

Then on Friday I was out mowing the lawn and Junior told me to go in and shower because we had to go somewhere. Not knowing what the heck he was up to I complied and he dropped me off in front of a spa for a 3 1/2 hour break from the kids. I got pampered with a pedicure, facial, and back treatment. I'd never done anything like it and LOVED it. SOOO relaxing, just don't think I could make a habit of spending money on such frivolous things. It was a nice treat for sure though.
Then on Saturday (my actual birthday) we headed to the park for the yearly Pioneer Day celebration (the advantage of having my birthday in Utah is there's always a party and Junior always has the day off). The kids had a great time running around playing games, climbing on fire trucks, watching the Indians perform cultural dances and visiting the pioneer village. Junior definitely spoiled me ROTTEN for my birthday
Here are a some pics of their favorite activities
Swinging over a snake pit

Proudly displaying their vests they made

Riding the old fashioned fire truck, they thought this was way cooler than the new one

The new one was pretty cool too though

Kalei trying to find a "needle" in a haystack

Junior and my favorite was the prison!

I don't know why but this picture makes me laugh

We decided to lock Leilei up too

Trying their hand at the hoop races

Shooting bow and arrows

Lei LOVED this miniature horse

The boys taking a pony ride

Then of course what would a birthday be without cake.

The weekend after that we had a BBQ with a bunch of friends from Junior's work. We left that and went straight to our neighborhood Picnic in the Park. We were the ones that planned it but only caught the tail end of it (got it all set up then took of to Junior's BBQ that's what happens when you plan too much and accidently double book). It was a joke among everyone. Oh well, we'll do better planning next time.
No pics for that weekend!
Then this week, WOW did we party! Our anniversary was on Friday but we went out to celebrate Thursday. We always keep it low key. Since I was about to pop on our 1st anniversary and craved burgers, it's become tradition for us to get burgers and milkshakes. We also went to a movie and went on a nice long walk. I'll spare you of all the mushy stuff but there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think how luck I am to have Junior as my partner in crime.
On Friday, Junior took the boys to our ward Fathers and Sons campout. The boys ALWAYS look forward to this every year. Junior knows how to show the boys a good time. They stayed up late laughing, telling stories, and being boys. Since it was threatening rain, they slept in the van and the boys loved the new adventure. The next morning Junior was in charge of the games and they played some Minute to Win It and it was a total hit.
Gotta have a mallow roast

Night Skits

Hanging out in the van

Candy Elevator

Oreo game

Elephant Walk

Playing Kickball

They got home from the campout around 11:00, were home long enough to take a bath then my mom whisked the boys off to Carls Jr for Brayden's birthday. They got home just in time for Brayden's birthday party.
He chose a Star Wars theme and we had a blast! As the kids arrived we gave them Jedi Knight costumes and a lightsaber. They played around for a little while and went on an astroid hunt. We then had a Jedi Master (a neighbor kid that teaches martial arts) come and train them to be Jedi Knights. It was HILLARIOUS watching them go through their "training".
Just as they were completing their training Darth Vadar (another neighborhood kid) showed up. He first took on the Jedi Master and defeated him so all the little Jedi Knights took their revenge and took Darth Vadar down. Brayden was deemed the new Jedi Master by being able to break a board with the "force".
We then had snacks (bananas, strawberries, and chips selected by Brayden) and of course cake and ice cream. I was practicing with fondant for my brothers wedding and it was a DISASTER but after a lot of stars covering the cake it worked for a birthday party.
We moved on to presents (the highlight for Brayden) then they moved back outside to fight Darth Vadar yet again (Brayden got a costume for his brithday and he wanted everyone to fight him). The new toys were busted out and they had a great time fighting with their lighsabers and running wild.
We summed up the night by going to the stake picnic. Needless to say we were POOPED yesterday. It's been a very busy summer with all theypartying, playing, pooling and more but we're having a great time!
These pictures are in no particular order because we had camera batteries dying left and right so it's a combo of our camera, Janessa's, and our nieghbors and I'm not even bothering getting the ones off of our video camera. Just imagine a bunch of kids mercilessly beating on Darth Vadar (we're lucky John was such a good sport) and Brayden blowing out the candles (they were the light sabers which he though was WAY cool)
The new Darth Vadar

The final battle

Victory over the dark side

Opening presents

Free for all fight

The cake

Brayden and his good friend Bridger. I got a great one of Brayden jumping in the air as Brayden swung but it was in video mode. OOPS!
This was after he had lost both arms and legs

/this actually fom another party earlier this week but I loved it too much not to post

The majority of the party, couldn't get them all in one picture
